Ghosts n Stuff

On listening to Deadmau5's album "For Lack of a Better" I recalled how much of a hit it was in 2009 when a friend of mine in Middlesbrough's punk rock community suggested I hear it. The song reached 12 on the singles chart and number 2 on the dance chart in the UK, probably because of it's chorus.

I realised while listening to the song "Ghosts 'n Stuff" that it's chorus was very strong, as was it's commercial arrangement. I have decided to attempt to write an electro-house type tune in the style of Deadmau5 (feat. Rob Swire).

From this I hope to improve my production skills and utilize my music theory knowledge.

Progress

I've made some progress in my songwriting ability however I'm still behind on finished songs. I've just been listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for the first time ever. I really thought I'd hate it but the songwriting is fantastic. A great use of the dominant and subdominant, which I've been reluctant to use in the past through a misunderstanding of music theory having made it up as I go along.

New tune idea

Taking the chords from Tihuanna Brass Band's "This guy's in love with you", I've come up with quite a nice progression:

Bbmaj7, dm7/G, Cmaj7, Fmaj7.

Has easily lent itself to a melody but lyric writing is still a pain.

Recordings to come in the new year.
